GLAPWELL FC RESULTS - 2001/02 SEASON

Tuesday 9th October, 2001
GLAPWELL 10 SELSTON 2

ANOTHER chance was taken by the side's fringe players to push their case for a regular starting spot in the League as Glapwell reached double-figures in a friendly against Central Midlands side, Selston.

The scoring began after just three minutes when Adie Carter latched onto a Malc Brown pass and expertly rounded the Selston keeper. Six minutes later, Brown got his name on the scoresheet converting over the keeper following his poor kick-out, before adding his second and Glapwell’s third soon after.

James Gillam, a young striker from Worksop Town, impressed in his debut and found the net on 23 following a square ball from Brown.

A quick counter-attack from Selston saw them pull one back three minutes later but it only took the same amount of time before Glapwell regained their four goal advantage, Chris Parr volleying home following a goalmouth scramble, and Gillam finished the first-half scoring with an excellent volley at the far post on 40 from a Nev Silcock cross.

Adam Froggatt then made the most of his second-half introduction, striking a hat-trick to remind Graham Gladwin that he is still waiting in the wings.

Firstly, he bundled home on 56 after Jason Bowater’s header from a corner had troubled Selston, then headed a Lee Rhodes cross past the keeper eleven minutes later, and completed his tally with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining following a bizarre incident which had seen a Glapwell free-kick brought forward three times into the penalty area due to dissent.

Substitute Kieran Marshall completed the scoring for Glapwell on 77 but became the villain of the piece when he missed a spot-kick and was then sent-off following a confrontation with the Selston keeper. The incident knocked the free-flowing football out of the hosts and Selston capitalised adding their second with four minutes remaining.

Glapwell: Etheridge, Silcock, Bicknell (Rowbottom 45), Purdy (Poxon 45), Bowater, Brown (Redfern 64), Parr, Rhodes, Welch (Froggatt 45), Gillam, Carter (Marshall 45).
