GLAPWELL’s up-and-down season took another downturn as they crashed out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at Ripley Town, a side who play three divisions below them in the Non-League Pyramid.

Glapwell, 1998 winners and last season’s beaten finalists, spurned several chances on a boggy, uneven pitch in a goalless first half.

In fact, they had only themselves to blame for not turning round at least three goals to the good.

But, as so often happens when chances are missed, the opposition capitalised and Ripley took a 52nd-minute lead through Kevin Mabon.

They then doubled it when Shaun Archbold scored on 65 minutes.

This served as a wake-up call to Glapwell, and they drew level with two goals in ten minutes through Steve Dillon and Brendan Yates.

Glapwell looked to be heading for victory following the fight back.

But then, visiting goalkeeper Neil West inexplicably allowed Archbold’s seemingly harmless free-kick squirm through his hands and his legs and into the net, to put Ripley back in front.

This totally knocked the stuffing out of Graham Gladwin’s side, and they conceded a fourth when Mabon slotted a penalty on 75 to cap a disappointing and frustrating afternoon for the travelling supporters.
