GLAPWELL bounced back from their shock County Cup defeat at Ripley, and turned in their best performance of the season at Hall Corner to beat Borrowash Victoria, 3-1.

Vics had the majority of the first half play, but were restricted to long range efforts, whilst Glapwell had two good chances, for Gary Page and Brendan Yates, but could not capitalise.

The second half saw Glapwell in almost total control with Malc Brown and Yates getting grips with the midfield whilst John Redfern did more of a holding role.

Borrowash were forced into uncharacteristic errors, from one of which Glapwell took the lead. After lining up his wall for a free-kick, keeper Dean Lowe unaccountably deserted his goal and Page strolled up to hit his free-kick into the unguarded net.

Glapwell went further ahead three minutes later when keeper Neil West threw the ball to the impressive Steve Dillon who rounded two defenders and drew Lowe before finishing.

Momentarily, the home side lost their way. Nathan Booth, who had been excellent, had to come off with a recurring injury and, when Adie Carter’s poor clearance went straight to Paul Brooks, the striker hit a terrific 25-yard finish past West.

Glapwell gradually re-asserted their authority, with Danny Welch fitting in well in midfield.

And it was no surprise when Brown made it 3-1 in the 89th minute with a superb solo effort after a run from the halfway line.
