A SECOND-HALF surrender by Glapwell saw a resurgent Brigg Town romp to an overwhelming victory.

The defeat was the Hall Corner side’s biggest for four-and-a-half years and yet, it would not have been foolish to say that the match turned on a controversial first-period injury-time penalty.

Glapwell looked like they were going to be swamped by the home side in the early stages. And, it came as no surprise when Phil Rowland put Brigg ahead converting a low cross from the right by Simon Roach on five minutes.

But, to Glapwell’s credit, they began to claw their way back into the game, and just as they looked as though they would go in at half-time still in touch, came the controversy.

Carter was adjudged to have handled in the area and Steve Carter converted the spot-kick.

And, when Roach made it 3-0 on 49, a loss of discipline and structure by Glapwell through fatigue and frustration, turned the game into a training match for the hosts.

The regular intervention of keeper Neil West prevented the scoreline from being even more embarrassing but he could not prevent three further goals in the last thirteen minutes, two from Roach and one from Simon Drayton.

Nathan Booth grabbed an excellent consolation as the game entered injury time, waltzing through the Brigg defence and converting low past Lawless, but it was scant reward on an overall miserable evening.
