IT took a virtuoso performance by keeper Neil West to continue Glapwell’s unbeaten run with a 0-0 draw at Dennyfield on Saturday.

Glapwell’s man of the match produced superb saves either side of half time to limit the home side Thackley to a share of the points.

Glapwell had their customary slow start to the game and the home side did much of the early running.

Matt Surtees produced the first chance of the game when he headed tamely at West on five minutes after fine link up play from Jim Rutherford and Amjad Iqbal.

Glapwell were looking slightly jaded after their superb win in midweek against league leaders Alfreton.

This showed as the well-organized Thackley side began to exert pressure on the visitors.

Iqbal fired narrowly wide from 30 yards on 20 minutes.

And, at the other end, Steve Dillon failed to connect with a Gary page cross after a surging 40 yard run from the defender.

The weather was having a big say in the match with passes going astray, poor control and the ball spending more time out of play than usual.

West, the busier of the two keepers, had to be alert on the half hour mark when he rushed to the edge of his box to clear from the feet of Wayne Metcalf.

Dillon could have put Glapwell in front on 40 minutes, but his 12-yard drive went the wrong side of the post after a neat turn in the box.

West made the first of his saves just before half time, diving full stretch to gather a Surtees downward header from an Ian Briggs cross.

West then produced the save of the game leaping to his right to tip the ball around the post after indecision in the Glapwell defence allowed Bulgin to unleash a vicious 15 yard drive.

A more evenly balanced second half with Glapwell coming more into the game.

Both sides were well organized at the back and both continued to look for an opening.

All of which produced a fascinating contest for the spectators who had braved the cold and blustery conditions.

Brendan Yates produced an overhead kick on 54 minutes, which, although entertaining, never looked as if it was going to trouble Cornwall.

James March then tested West with a 20-yard drive, but it was going to take something special to beat the Glapwell keeper in this form.

Page was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball on 75 minutes.

Fortunately, Bryan Brooks could not keep his effort down as it sailed well over the bar.

Two minutes later, Malc Brown’s effort was parried by Cornwall, Yates managed to touch the ball onto Dillon whose effort was smothered by the home keeper.

Adie Carter and Yates combined well on 85 minutes before the latter beat Cornwall with a low drive only to see the ball drift the wrong side of the far post.

A fairly even match, with Glapwell finishing the stronger of the two sides.

However, it would have been slightly unfair if the visitors had stolen the points at the death.
