HARROGATE Railway’s route-one football proved too much for Glapwell as the Yorkshire side took all three points from an entertaining encounter at Station View.

Ian Hart’s opening strike on 27 minutes and Steve Davey’s effort, which doubled the host’s advantage just before the hour mark, both came from long balls from the hosts as they used their frontmen’s pace to great advantage.

And, were it not for another excellent performance by Neil West in the Glapwell goal, many more goals could have come from that style of build-up.

But, that’s not to say that Glapwell deserved to be well-beaten in the game. In fact, they will feel aggrieved to have left North Yorkshire pointless.

It was great testament to the side that, even with an enforced last minute alteration to the team, they produced a good performance.

Manager Graham Gladwin had already needed to change his line-up following an injury to striker Robbie Clarke. But, with left-back Martyn Bicknell failing to show for the encounter, substitute John Purdy was rushed in for his first appearance in over a month.

And, as the game progressed, Glapwell’s case for at least a point came stronger.

Firstly, on 72 minutes, John Redfern pulled one back from a Brendan Yates corner and, as the game entered injury time, Lee Rhodes was just inches away from a deserved equaliser.
