A BRENDAN Yates twelve-yard drive secured the points for Glapwell two minutes from time in a match that should have been over well before the late strike.

Glapwell took the lead after only five minutes when man-of-the-match Martin Rowbottom advanced down the right and delivered a superb cross to Gary Page.

His initial attempt was parried by Lee Broster in the Arnold goal.

But, with two defenders failing to clear the danger, Page was on hand to rifle the ball home from six yards.

Glapwell enjoyed the majority of possession in the first 25 minutes with Broster very much the busier of the two keepers.

Craig Maddison’s low drive from just outside the box on 30 minutes saw Neil West pull off his first serious save.

The home keeper was forced into a full-stretch dive to palm the full back’s effort around the post.

Arnold got back on level terms after 34 minutes, Mark Gadsby rising above the Glapwell defence to knock down to Tony Simpson who drove past West from eight yards.

Broster produced a superb stop to deny Adie Carter on 38 minutes from Steve Dillon’s cross.

The second half started with both teams looking for the lead.

It was not until twenty minutes from the end that Glapwell took control, and the chances then came thick and fast.

Carter began to find space down the right and delivered cross after cross which the front-line could not convert.

Darrel Rankin should have scored on 71 minutes for Arnold after being put clear by Nigel Baily

But, with only the keeper to beat, he comically scooped his effort over the bar.

With the game looking as if it was heading for a stalemate, Yates latched onto a Page through ball. As the keeper advanced, the striker from just inside the box, placed the ball into the far corner much to the relief of the home crowd.
