THE game is 30 minutes old, you are 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men. On top of that your manager has been expelled from the dugout. Most sides would be finished, but not Glapwell. Glapwell had a good start, but a period of sustained pressure on 25 minutes brought the home side the opening goal. Andy Cygan linked up with Mike Amos down the right and was on hand to finish the return cross with a low drive past Neil West on the far post. The night got worse for Glapwell a minute later when Cygan, who was clearly two yards offside, advanced into the box and was felled by Brendan Yates. Andy Hart cooly converted the penalty kick to make it 2-0. Glapwell manager Graham Gladwin, clearly incensed by the linesman's failure to give the offside, was then banished to the role of spectator. On the half hour mark, Glapwell seemed to be down and out as John Purdy tripped Kristian Baxter in the box. Being the last man the referee had no option but to send the defender for an early bath. Cygan's mediocre spot kick, though, was well saved by West. On 50, Hart upended Steve Dillon in the box and Freddie Morgan confidently dispatched the night’s third spot kick to give Glapwell hope. Selby were unable to make the extra man count and Glapwell continued to dominate and were worth their 76th-minute equaliser when a Page free kick was cleared back to the midfielder, who promptly hit a vicious curling 25-yard drive that flew into the top corner leaving Craig Code with no chance. |
