GLAPWELL managed to avoid their first dreaded “double” in the NCEL Premier Division as they came from two goals down to gain a point at home to Pickering Town.

Unsurprisingly, manager Graham Gladwin kept as close as he could to the same side that played the majority of the 3-0 victory over Garforth Town in midweek.

The only changes were the return to the line-up on the left-wing of Gary Page.

And, with keeper Neil West still struggling with the injury he picked up in the previous match, there was a debut for on-loan Matlock Town keeper, Darren Lomas who produced an encouraging display.

However, it looked as though Glapwell’s afternoon would produce scant reward as, just after the interval, they found themselves two goals down.

Matthew Moreton had given the North Yorkshire visitors a half-time lead with a strike on 40 minutes.

And, a Stefan Zoll lob from 25 yards after the restart had seemingly put the game beyond the home side.

But, as the Hall Corner faithful have come to learn over the years, Glapwell were not quickly going to give up the chase.

Gladwin introduced Ben Clark and striker Steve Dillon into the action, and the side immediately gained momentum from the change.

And, their pressure on the Pikes’ goal paid dividends when Brendan Yates pulled one back with a deflected shot from the edge of the box on the hour mark.

Then, Glapwell’s recovery was complete when Dillon wriggled past two defenders in the box to fire past Kevin Martin in the Pickering goal with thirteen minutes left.

The draw meant that Glapwell moved up to seventh in the Premier Division table, their highest since the middle of September and a sign of the club’s change in fortune.
