Referee: Ian Storer (Alvaston)

GLAPWELL notched up their worst losing streak of the season so far - four in a row - as they produced an uninspired performance against a determined Denaby United.

Denaby look set to cease to exist at the end of the season, with this match being played at Brodsworth Welfare as United’s home ground is now unfit for midweek matches.

And, they had the spirit of a team willing to fight for their survival whilst, in contrast, a Glapwell side which was stronger than that against Hallam three days earlier looked already to have given up the ghost for this campaign.

The match started brightly for Graham Gladwin’s side with Steve Dillon and Chris Taylor having good chances for the visitors.

But, two goals in the first quarter-of-an-hour of the second period killed the game off.

Firstly, on 47, referee Ian Storer saw a handball that nobody else could in the Glapwell penalty area, and Lee Dews stepped up to convert past Neil Etheridge.

Then, thirteen minutes later, Martin Rowbottom lost the ball on the right and Denaby capitalised, with Jake Pidcock doubling their advantage.

After that, Glapwell created the best opportunities with Brendan Yates coming close twice whilst Rowbottom saw a spectacular effort cleared off-the-line by Lee Hobson.

But, in the end, the 2-0 defeat was what was deserved from an insipid display.
